Poisson's ratio
The Poisson's ratio is an elastic parameter based on the measurement of lateral expansion relative to the longitudinal contraction. For rocks, Poisson’s ratio is typically 0.15 - 0.25. For weak porous rocks can approach zero or even become negative. For fluids, Poisson's ratio is 0.5. For unconsolidated sand it approaches 0.5. 1

The most important method for simulation of this elastic parameter is acoustic logging, and in particular acoustic wireline logs.
